Finding Your Ideal Makeup Artist

Updated: Apr 30, 2021

Hey beauties! Happy #makeupmonday ! Today I wanted to discuss with you a basic guide on how to find your ideal makeup artist! Sounds like a silly topic, right? It really isn't that silly.

I want you to think about a few qualities that you would look for in a makeup artist. Whether or not you can think of any, keep reading!

1. You like their work

I know, it sounds SO silly! But you need to hire an artist whose work you love! Can you picture yourself in the group of faces in their portfolio?

Beautiful bridal makeup!

2. You can afford the artist

I CANNOT stress the importance of this one beauties! Most artists list their pricing on their websites, so you'll see them when you visit it. However, if the artist doesn't list their pricing, just reach out and ask!

Make sure you can see yourself in their portfolio!

3. Their communication process

So you've found an artist whose work you love, yay! AND you can afford them--double yay! Now you need to make sure their communication is on-point! Also, be aware that makeup artists are people like you and me-- and sometimes things get busy. Most artist--myself included-- have a standard policy to respond to you within 24 hours. This gives us the chance to give you the attention that you deserve (so you can receive the service you need), and not lose our marbles in the process. Remember that your artist wants to provide you a quality service. We try our best to accommodate your needs!

You want to make sure you are taken care of!

4. Professionalism & customer service

Now that I've mentioned communication and accommodation, I need to discuss professionalism! I know that professionalism and customer service are implied, but sometimes it's a relief to be reminded.

What does professionalism look like for a makeup artist?

-They have excellent communication practices.

-They provide knowledge and skill before the makeup application (answering your questions, assuring your makeup will stay for the day, etc.)

-They mention their sanitary practices: either on their website or in conversation with you. You will see these sanitary practices during the makeup application.

Here are some examples of customer service:

-They try their best to respond within 24 hours.

-You feel like you will be taken care of.

-They show value in their communication: sharing knowledge, prompt response times, a general excitement to be part of your special day.

Shine on your wedding day with your ideal artist!

So that's the basics beauties! I hope this guide is really helpful for you as you select your makeup artist for your big day!

As always, reach out with questions!

Later! <3 Carla
