Undertones: Warm, Cool, Neutral; What Do They Each Mean?

Hey beauties! Welcome back to Creative Contour By Carla™! Today we are talking all about undertones! This is a bit of a more advanced topic, but is beneficial for you when it comes to your makeup looks! First, let me introduce you to what undertones are. Undertones are the colors that exist in every skin tone. We all have undertones in our skin. Some of us have warm undertones, neutral, cool. Sometimes we will even go to the step of naming the color of the undertone. For example, olive undertones. Now that we have that explained, let's get into the good stuff!

What are the undertones?

Undertones come in warm, neutral, and cool. Warm undertones prominently have warm colors, red and yellow. Cool undertones prominently have cool colors, blue. Neutral undertones have an even mix of warm and cool undertones.

How do I know my undertone?

Beauties, the golden question has been asked! Let's talk about it! In order to know what undertone you have, you need to understand what colors are prominent in your skin tone. The depth of your skin is irrelevant when it comes to undertone, as undertones appear the same in all skin depths. For example, if you have an olive undertone, then you will see a greenish tint to your skin, regardless of your skin's depth.

Warm Undertones

Warm undertones exist when yellow or red is most prominent in the skin. When you look in the mirror, you're more likely to see red or yellow immediately in your skin. When you wear makeup, everything most likely looks warm against your skin tone. If you wear cool toned makeup colors, you may find that they don't look as strong against your undertone as they do in the palette. Your veins will most likely look very green.

Cool Undertones

Cool undertones exist when you see blue is most prominent in the skin. Your veins will look very blue or even a little bit purple. When you wear makeup and it has a warm undertone, the product will look very sallow against your undertone, and you may feel it's a little too much.

Neutral Undertones

You have an even mix of warm and cool colors in your undertone naturally. Sometimes this means you may have a few different colors naturally occurring in your skin. You may find it hard to tell whether you have a warm or cool undertone, because you have so much of both tones!
